cirin10.JPGHematology - The most commonly performed test is the complete blood count (CBC).  The CBC is used as a broad screening test to check for such disorders as anemia, infection, and many other diseases. It is actually  a panel of tests that examines different parts of the blood.  This test is performed in-house on every horse before surgery to ensure they are healthy enough to undergo anesthesia.  In the figure to the right you can see two white blood cells (neutrophils) with numerous smaller red blood cells in the background.
