Upper Airway Surgery

Upper Airway back.jpgPartial obstruction of the upper airway is a very common cause of poor performance in both racehorses and sport horses that may be accompanied by an abnormal noise while exercising.  Although there are many causes for this condition, the three most common conditions seen in performance horses include laryngeal hemiplegia, epiglottal entrapment and intermittent dorsal displacement of the soft palate.  Some of these conditions may be treated with minimally invasive endoscopic procedures, while others require surgical correction that is performed under general anesthesia.
